I'm worried about whatseventhepoint on /r/self
Posted 3 hours ago; sounds like they could do with some help:
I don't know what to do anymore. I've exhausted any little hope I'd had, and now there's nothing.
I just want it to be over. By any means necessary.

Why You Should Never Use MongoDB
Disclaimer: I do not build database engines. I build web applications. I run 4-6 different projects every year, so I build a lot of web applications. I see apps with different requirements and different data storage needs. IΒve deployed most of the data stores youΒve heard about, and a few that you probably havenΒt. Iβve picked the wrongβ¦

Something like HTTPS Everywhere for new Opera?
I'm looking for an extension that will automatically redirect-to-HTTPS for particular domains, e.g. to ensure that I'm using the secure version of Wikipedia, etc., whenever I go there. The HTTPS Everywhere plugin from the EFF does this for Firefox and Chrome; what can I do to make this work in Opera?

TIL that "Lawnchair" Larry Walters, who flew to 16,000 feet using weather balloons tied to a lawn chair in 1982, shot himself eleven years later.
LARRY WALTERS FOUND FAME AT 16.000 feet. On July 2,1982, the 33-year-old truck driver rigged 42 helium-filled weather balloons to a Sears lawn chair in San Pedro, Calif., and, as friends looked on in wondrous support, lifted off. The sight of Walters floating in the sky shocked pilots, who radioed perplexed local air-traffic controllers. Walters β¦

Proxima Centauri is 4.3 light years way: too far to travel. Why don't we just use Mercury (which has an 88 day year) as a staging ground, and launch from there?
Mercury's year is only 88 days, so if we launch a rocket from there, we only have to travel for just over 1 light year, saving time and fuel.

How does a polyamorous relationship between four people work? | BBC News
