The Firefox team absolutely knocking it out of the park by rallying the faces of the memes you've missed and using them as a reminder that the Web you've missed is still out there.
In case you haven't heard me bang on about this enough already:
- If you're (somehow still) using Chrome, for fuck's sake stop: you're actively helping make Google's monopoly stronger and empowering them to break the Web in more ways.
- If you're using a different Chromium-based browser like Edge or Opera, maybe shop around? You don't have to use the same browser all day every day, and diversity of rendering engines helps to keep the Web free and open. Also, be wary for the more-poisonous changes made in Chrome bleeding-into your browser.
- If you're using Safari... then I'm sorry, man. I appreciate that you don't get a choice on your iPhone or iPad, and I get that it saves you battery on your MacBook. But don't be afraid to complain loudly about the fact that Safari's becoming the "new IE", holding the Web back with its lack of innovation and standards-compliance.
- If you're using Firefox or one of its siblings (Waterfox, IceCat etc.): cool, good for you. Don't forget to install uBlock Origin, which remains a full-featured content blocker on Firefox even while other browsers are forcing it to water-down its security and privacy capabilities!
Of course your choice of browser is only one step in (re)discovering the "fun" Internet again. It's still very-much out there, but it takes slightly more work than installing the app for some endless-scroll social network... just like it always did. (The effort's worth it, I promise.)
